Customer Experience

Customer Loyalty

Short and sweet:

Customer Loyalty

A customer’s continuing preference for and willingness to return to a particular business or brand.

Loyalty is reflected in repeat behavior, advocacy, and resistance to competing alternatives.

Detailed Definition of Customer Loyalty:

Customer loyalty describes an ongoing preference for a brand that shows up as repeat purchases and resistance to switching, even when a cheaper or more convenient alternative is available. It tends to build gradually through consistently good experiences, rather than through a single standout interaction, which is what separates it from short-term satisfaction. Loyal customers are also valuable beyond their own repeat spend, since they’re more likely to recommend a brand to others without being asked.

Examples of Customer Loyalty:

Sephora’s Beauty Insider program turns customer loyalty into hard data, tracking points and rewarding shoppers who keep coming back instead of trying a competing beauty retailer.

Costco members renew their pricey annual membership year after year at rates north of 90 percent, a level of loyalty most retailers can only dream of matching.

Apple customers frequently line up overnight for new iPhone releases and stick with the ecosystem across phones, laptops, and watches, rarely giving Android or Windows a second look.
