Value Proposition

Short and sweet:

Value Proposition

A clear explanation of the benefit an offering provides, the problem it solves, and why it is a strong choice.

A central message that connects customer needs with the value the business delivers.

Detailed Definition of Value Proposition:

A value proposition is the clear statement of the specific benefit a customer gets from choosing a product, why that benefit matters to them, and why it’s better than the alternatives available, condensed into language a prospect can grasp in a few seconds. It’s meant to answer the question a skeptical buyer is silently asking, which is why they should care, rather than simply listing features the product happens to have. A strong one is specific enough to be believable and differentiated enough that it couldn’t be copied and pasted onto a competitor’s page without sounding wrong.

Examples of Value Proposition:

Slack’s value proposition boils down to replacing scattered email chains with organized, searchable team conversations, a promise stated right on its homepage in a single sentence.

Dollar Shave Club built its entire pitch around a simple core promise: quality razors delivered to your door for a few dollars a month, cutting out the markup of drugstore shelves.

Airbnb’s early pitch offered travelers a cheaper, more local alternative to hotels, a message that resonated enough to build an entirely new category of travel.
