E-E-A-T

Short and sweet:

E-E-A-T

E-E-A-T; a framework Google’s quality raters use to assess content, standing for Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness.

Not a direct ranking factor itself, but a heavy influence on the systems and human review processes that shape search visibility.

Detailed Definition of E-E-A-T:

E-E-A-T isn’t a score a page receives or a box a developer checks, it’s a framework Google uses to train its ranking systems and guide the human quality raters who evaluate search results. The four components break down as:

  • Experience: whether the content reflects real, first-hand experience with the topic
  • Expertise: whether the creator has genuine knowledge or skill in the subject
  • Authoritativeness: whether the site or author is recognized as a credible source in that space
  • Trustworthiness: whether the content and site are accurate, transparent, and safe to rely on

It matters most for topics where inaccurate information could cause real harm, like health, finance, or safety content, and it’s increasingly relevant to AI answer engines too, since a model is more likely to cite a source it can verify as credible.

Examples of E-E-A-T:

A health website might add author bios listing medical credentials to strengthen the expertise and trustworthiness signals in its content.

A financial blog could publish original research or first-hand case studies to demonstrate real experience rather than only summarizing other sources.

A local business earning citations and reviews from other credible local sites builds the kind of authoritativeness E-E-A-T rewards over time.
