Copilot

Short and sweet:

Copilot

Copilot; Microsoft’s AI assistant, built into Windows, Microsoft 365, Bing, and Edge, used for drafting content, answering questions, and automating tasks within everyday work applications.

Distinguished by its deep integration inside workplace tools like Word, Excel, and Outlook, rather than existing mainly as a standalone chat app.

Detailed Definition of Copilot:

Copilot’s biggest differentiator is where it lives: instead of requiring people to open a separate app, it’s built directly into the Microsoft tools many businesses already use every day, drafting emails in Outlook, summarizing meetings in Teams, and building formulas in Excel. It’s also powered in part by Bing’s search index, which means it functions as an answer engine in its own right, generating cited responses to questions asked through Bing Chat or the Edge browser sidebar. For marketers, that makes Copilot another surface worth monitoring, particularly for B2B audiences who spend much of their day inside Microsoft’s ecosystem.

Examples of Copilot:

An employee might ask Copilot inside Word to summarize a lengthy report into three key takeaways before a meeting.

A sales rep could use Copilot in Outlook to draft a follow-up email based on notes from a previous call.

A B2B marketer checking its answer engine visibility for enterprise software questions might specifically test how Copilot and Bing respond, given how many corporate users default to that ecosystem.
