Case Study

Short and sweet:

Case Study

A detailed account of how a product, service, or strategy helped solve a real customer’s problem.

A proof-focused content format that combines story, process, and measurable results.

Detailed Definition of Case Study:

A case study is a detailed account of how a specific customer used a product or service to solve a real problem, typically including the original challenge, the solution applied, and measurable results achieved afterward. Unlike a generic testimonial, it walks through enough context and specifics that a prospective customer facing a similar situation can see themselves in the story. Because of this specificity, case studies tend to carry particular weight later in a buyer’s journey, when someone is evaluating options rather than just becoming aware of them.

Examples of Case Study:

HubSpot regularly publishes a detailed case study on its website showing exactly how a client like Trello increased signups after switching marketing platforms, complete with specific before-and-after numbers.

A B2B software company like Salesforce might build one around a customer such as Spotify, walking through the specific problem, the implementation process, and the measurable revenue gains that followed.

Agencies often lean on a strong example like this during new business pitches, using a past client’s dramatic traffic or sales growth as proof that their strategy actually delivers results.
